  1. I think the prestige stuff is dnds way to achieve the variety of classless systems within its class-bound system. I enjoy that a lot but it is also the reason I don’t play DnD anymore. Building monks that can run faster than the speed of sound dudes with AC over 100 without armor or Rogues with +20 on sneak on level 2 without a single skill point is fun but it also breaks the realism for me.
    And there are builders out there far more talented than little me.

    Bonus Questions: How do you guys manage to carry your GM-Stuff everywhere? What accessories do you carry at all?

  2. I got into pen and paper gaming in 2014 in my mid thirties, which is pretty late in life. My introduction was by lurking on a play by post game of Pathfinder taking place on a forum I frequented. Due to this, Pathfinder, in all its bloated glory, forms the basis of what I expect a pen and paper tabletop rpg to be.

    There are two comments on your take two of episode 17 that comes from this background. First I would suggest that Angry take a closer look at the crunchy details of Starfinder. There are a lot of changes from, what I am told is, the venerable 3.5 d20 engine that is Starfinder’s ancestor; both glaring and subtle. Two of the biggest to me are the overhaul of the health system (which splits HP into three separate pools of HP, Stamina Points, and Resolve Points) and the design of the two spellcasting classes as spontaneous casters restricted to 6th level spells. There are many other changes as well which makes Starfinder far more than just a space skin on Pathfinder I would argue.

    Secondly, I am a bit bemused at the simultaneous disdain at WoTC for not supporting 5e enough, and at Paizo for supporting Pathfinder too much. I guess the two questions which come from this bemusement is, one, what is the opinion of the hosts on what the optimal level of support from a company would be? and, two, on which side is it better to err?

    One of the games of Pathfinder I’ve played was the Iron Gods Adventure Path published by Paizo. This is set in the techno barbaric wasteland part of Paizo’s campaign setting which is full of superstitious barbarians, ancient crashed alien starships, and laser pistols. The character I came up with was a Gear Gnome Archivist Bard who is one of the favorite characters I have ever played and made heavy use of the Alternate Racial Traits system Paizo has for Races as well as the Archetype system it has for classes.

    The last paragraph, it seems to me, would require a GM to carry out a heck of a lot of homebrew to replicate in D&D 5e, but due to the absurd amount of content Paizo provides, is just there for Pathfinder. Isn’t it better to have too much rather than not enough? Especially when the too much is easily available via cheap pdfs and, even better, through free online SRD sites? It does require a strict GMs to filter what they allow players to build but isn’t it easier to do that rather than homebrew concepts and mechanics that don’t exist?

      I’m no native English speaker, so could you elaborate what resolve points represent please?

      And I would too find the acceptable amount of support an interesting opinion to hear, since I would love to design games for a living at some point.

  3. +1 on reading the Starfinder rules thoroughly before declaring it “just” Pathfinder-in-space. The basic system is pretty much the same, but they’ve changed up a lot of the details.

    HP got an extensive overhaul. I think that was mostly to minimize magical healing.

    Skills and Feats got slimmed down. Skills may have gone too far. It’s real easy to have enough points for everything.

    Equipment got levels for some reason.

    AC got split into energy and kinetic, but saving throws are still a thing.

    And one last thing, Golarion (the standard Pathfinder world) doesn’t actually exist in Starfinder. It went “poof” and got replaced by Absalom Station.

  4. Wow, now I am truly amazed that this far any letter/package (there wasn’t a whole lot, but still more than just 1-2) I received from/sent to the US from Europe, made it in whole. Not always quite on time, but still made it there. All of them sent using regular post.

  5. Bought the Harry Potter deck builder on the strength of this podcast. I and my eldest son love it, my other son tolerates it. It definitely follows the progression: “that was easy”, “that was easy”, “that was close” to “damn! that’s hard”.
